In Switzerland, compulsory education is mandated by law in all 26 cantons. This means that all children living in Switzerland, regardless of the canton they reside in, are required to attend school from the age of around 4 or 5 until the age of 15 or 16. The specific details of compulsory education, such as the age range and curriculum, may vary slightly from canton to canton, but the overall requirement is consistent across the country. **

The number of cantons in Switzerland is a complex and historically rooted issue. Currently, Switzerland has 26 cantons, and each canton has its own unique cultural, linguistic, and historical characteristics. While some may argue for a reduction in the number of cantons to streamline governance and decision-making, others may advocate for maintaining the current number to preserve the diverse identities and traditions of each canton. Ultimately, the decision on the number of cantons should be made through a careful and inclusive process that takes into account the perspectives and interests of all stakeholders. **

In Switzerland, the cantons where cigarettes are allowed for 16-year-olds are Geneva, Vaud, Neuchâtel, and Jura. These cantons have set the legal age for purchasing cigarettes at 16, while the rest of the country has a minimum age of 18. It is important to note that even in these cantons, the legal age for smoking in public places is still 18. **

The existence of certain Swiss cantons would be threatened if the glaciers were to melt, particularly those located in the Alps. The cantons of Valais, Bern, and Graubünden would be most at risk due to their proximity to the glaciers. While it is unlikely that any cantons would completely disappear, the melting of glaciers would have significant impacts on the landscape, water resources, and tourism in these regions, potentially leading to economic and environmental challenges for the affected cantons. **

If the Catholic conservative cantons of Switzerland had founded their own state, it is likely that they would have implemented policies and laws that align with their conservative values, such as strict regulations on social issues like abortion and same-sex marriage. This new state may have also prioritized religious education and maintained a strong connection between church and state. However, this could have led to tensions with the more liberal cantons in Switzerland, potentially resulting in political and social divisions within the country. **

The popularity of cycling or skiing can vary depending on the location and time of year. In general, cycling tends to be more popular in urban areas and during the warmer months, while skiing is more popular in mountainous regions and during the winter. However, it's difficult to determine which activity is followed more overall without specific data on participation rates in different regions and seasons. **

The loose confederation of states, which consisted of 13 cantons until 1789, faced several conflicts due to its decentralized structure. One major conflict was the lack of a strong central government, leading to difficulties in making collective decisions and enforcing laws. Additionally, there were disputes over trade, tariffs, and borders between the cantons, causing economic tensions. Furthermore, there were disagreements over military alliances and defense strategies, which weakened the confederation's ability to protect itself from external threats. **
